Report from NYC Trade Shows
Last week, Kate and Ann-Marie traveled to NYC to attend some trade shows and look for inspiration in the city that never sleeps. It just so happened to be a very hot weekend but that didn’t discourage them from clocking ten miles on a steamy 85 degree Saturday!
Amongst the must-see stores on our list for eye candy were John Darian, Nickey Kehoe, and Printemps. The highlight, however was stopping at the Whitby Hotel on a recommendation from one of our favorite customers. We managed to walk past the entrance three times before finding it (it was hot and we were delirious, but seriously, why do so many places in NYC have “hidden” entrances?). The hotel was designed and decorated by Kit Kemp. One can appreciate a designers work in a book, on IG or Pinterest but to submerge yourself within an entire hotel is an entirely different experience. Home Remedies carries Kit Kemp fabric but to see them layered on walls, sofas, settees, drapery, and pillows together was jaw dropping. The hotel manager picked up on our excitement and offered up a tour of the various function rooms, including a private theater with orange Ferrari leather seats. Another highlight was the Whitby Suite, a two bedroom apartment complete with a beautiful terrace. Throughout the hotel the artwork was whimsical and colorful. Kit Kemp has two other hotels in Manhattan, the Crosby and the Warren, which we made a point to check out as well. All three had their own signature themes and were equally exquisite. She also has hotels in London. Next trip?…
We managed to regain our energy for the next two days of shopping for the store. Attending trade shows is really the only way to see and feel the quality of products we love sharing with you. Stay tuned for new merchandise to be arriving in the next few months. Some teasers: fun gifts for baby, nuptials, home, hard-to-buy- for friends and of course things to treat yourself.
